Heartwood relocating to west scotland

We are excited to announce we will soon be relocating our workshop to Lochaline on the Morvern peninsula. The opportunity to work with Jake Willis of Sound Wood was too good to miss, along with the possibility of increasing our use of sustainable local timber. In particular we will be able to provide frames in larch, douglas fir and western red cedar from the immediate local area, with oak coming from slightly further afield.

We will continue to supply and erect timber frames throughout the UK. While some of our overheads will increase, others will decrease. Overall we believe our prices will remain much the same, but we will be able to offer a better service to our clients through our improved use of local sustainable timber.

We believe we will become the most westerly timber framing yard on mainland UK!

Woodlanders: New Life in Britain’s Forests

If you love wood and woodlands, you’ll love this book: ‘Woodlanders: New Life in Britain’s Forests’. Conceived and developed by the charity Reforesting Scotland, it promotes a vision for a restored landscape supporting a woodland culture. It is filled with articles about working and playing with woodlands, wood or woodland products.

Heartwood was asked to contribute to the book; one of around 40 personal stories included, and one of the few timber-framers. I was interviewed over the phone and then the copy sent to me to check over. We are in the book in a couple of places, including some photos of our frames.

It’s a beautiful book (not just because we are in it!), and we hope you’ll consider supporting Reforesting Scotland and buy a copy (see a preview of the book here).
