Bringing quality oak and timber-framing to the forefront of sustainable home and building construction

Heartwood’s founder Richard Wilkinson is driven by the desire to bring quality oak and timber-framing to the forefront of sustainable home and building construction. From apprentice to craftsman, Richard worked with a range of oak frame builders across the UK for twenty years before establishing Heartwood.

Richard has a life-long love, respect and understanding of wood and is a member of The Sustainable Building Association, The Carpenter’s Fellowship and Timber Framers Guild of North America. This deep-rooted passion combined with extensive knowledge and experience ensures Heartwood creates future friendly buildings that work well for the client. For Heartwood, it is essential that the client and the client’s vision, remains central to the project throughout.

This essential ethos is demonstrated throughout the Heartwood process, from the care taken to source the wood locally and responsibly to the skill, attention to detail and dedication brought to every individual client’s project. In the traditional sense of the master builder, Heartwood keeps an essential overview. Unwilling to compromise, the team knows what works and how to improve on it.

This overall commitment and integrity to the design, construction and delivery extends beyond the timber frame build ensuring seamless integration of the wood framing with the rest of the build.
